Last class

Today we finished editing our final movies. To do this we had to cut up the sound and the video and put everything together in a logical order.

Second Last Class

Today we recorded the voices for the video. After recording a couple of takes of each in the sound room we put the sound into Soundtrack Pro and started editing it all together. We finished it by the end of class and now we are ready to edit the video clips and putting the sound with the video. By next class our assignment should be done.

The last two classes

In last weeks class we focused on doing any last minute changes to our apartments in preparation for filming and working out how we were going to film our stories. My group decided to remove unimportant parts of the script and change the storyline a little. Instead of the male getting kicked out for messing the house up it is for playing loud music instead.

This week we filmed all of our scenes. The first thing we had to do was set up the microphones so we could make our character look like they are talking. Then we went through and filmed from a series of angles so we have a lot to work with when we are editing.

Next week we have to record the voices and edit the clips together.

Second Life

Today our groups went over the scripts to make sure they were ready for us to start filming. We continued added objects to our apartments and set the room up ready for filming. We got a program called Capture Me, which records what is on our screen. We played with filming our character to see how everything worked and the quality of the videos. We now should be fully prepared to start filming.

1. INT ALLY IN STEVE’S LIVING ROOM/ APARTMENT AFTERNOON

Ally and Steve are getting ready to leave to go to the cinema’s. Standing around the laptop Steve’s about to log out. in myspace.

ALLY

Do you ever wounder how pop-corn made it as a big tradition in cinemas?

STEVE

I know, it almost seems so wrong eating pop-corn without watching a movie.

ALLY

Wait down log of your slow dial-up Internet. Just wanna check my myspace’s comments.

Ally discovers that she Steve’s 7^th top friend, she smiles.

2. INT TOYOTA STANDING OUTSIDE APARTMENT

Toyota is standing out side apartment with all his gear in a box. He just got kicked out.

TOYOTA

Common let me back in, I’ll be clean, I wont leave my mess around any more…common you’re my Steve…. brother?

3. EXT TOYOTA ON LAPTOP

Toyota is out at a park on his laptop with his box full of stuff. He Myspace’s Ally asking if he can move in with her and Freak.

4. INT ALLY ON HER COMPUTER

Ally says yes for Toyota moving in because she has a crush on Toyotas brother and just started dating him.

ALLY thinking in her head

Yes, If he moves in I can get closer to his brother… Steve is so cute!

5. INT Freak and Ally’s LIVING ROOM/ APARTMENT NEXT NIGHT AFTERNOON

Freak and Ally are sitting on coach having beer.

Freak

Top friends!!!

Freak

Freak

What really. That’s pretty good.. I mean you know that takes some effort you know, with her slow dial net, I mean by the time it loads when there’s changers all that.

Freak

So any way, I got an email from Ace web designs, offering me a possible potion. Where meeting up on Brunswick street for lunch.

Ally

Really?

Freak

Yeah and they are a way better company then the one I’m in now.. and almost double my celery better my friend!

Ally

Really that’s great!

Freak

But thing is I;m on a two year contract with my job I’m in now… they know that though…

Ally

Really… then what the hell do they want from you?

Freak

Oh my… your right… What the hell do they what from me!

(Toyota walks in and greets Ally and Freak, Freak is still talking to Ally.)

Freak

I dunno. Now I’m nerves with my lunch.

Toyota

What, why, what did you eat?

3.INT BACK IN Steve’S LIVING ROOM/ APARTMENT NEXT NIGHT

Ally walks into Steve’s apartment. Steve’s mad because Ally is late. Ally discovers that she’s gone down to the 9^th myspace top friend.

Ally

(rashes in) Sorry I’m late, I’ll make it up to you, say we go out for dinner tonight?

STEVE

(madly) Yeah some place nice this nice this time! …I’m going to get my jacket (walks out)

Ally

Yeah sorry about the other night, I herd good things about that place. I’m just going to check my myspace.

4.INT Ally and Freak’s LIVING ROOM/ APARTMENT NIGHT

Ally is talking to Freak and Toyota while watching a DVD.

Ally

So I’m ninth place now!

5.INT Freak’S LUNCH WITH THE ACE WEB DESIGNERS

At a café with a male and female in business suits.

FEMALE

Now, unfortunately, The rules prevent us from making you an offer
while you're still under contract.



MALE

You understand what we're talking about?



Freak

So you're talking...



MALE

No, no. We're “not” talking... We're just, talking.

Freak

So, you need me to get fired.



FEMALE

We didn't say that. We couldn't say that, because even if we did...



MALE

...we couldn't say that we said it.You see what we're saying?



Freak

(jokingly) You are still paying for this lunch?



MALE

(serious) We didn't say that.

6.INT Ally and Freak’s BEDROOM NIGHT

Donna and Roza are lying in bed, Both side lumps are on. Roza is reading through some paper work.

Toyota

How was the meeting?



Freak

(smiles) There was no meeting. But it was quite
a meeting. (Roza screws up her face in confusion) You are looking at the next director of Ace’s web. The only thing
is, I have to get fired from my work first.

Freak

You can do that.

Freak


Of course. But I really wanna leave my mark this time, you know, uh. I
wanna walk away from with people saying 'Wow! Now that girl got canned!'
(has a look of pride on her face)

Toyota


So you want to go out in a final blaze of uselessness?



Freak

Ehh. (smiles) Remember that summer where I cooled my feet in the soft-serve machine?

7. INT BACK IN Steve’S LIVING ROOM/ APARTMENT NEXT NIGHT

Ally has just arrived and has presented Steve’s with a floral bouquet.


Steve 


(pleased) Oh, flowers. You didn't have to do that. I mean, the dinner,
and the play.

Ally



You forgot the gift certificate (smiles)

Steve

You know, you make a good impression I'm gonna go put these in some water.



Ally

I like the way you think.

(Steve leaves to the kitchen. The moment she's gone, Ally rushes over to
the laptop. She finds herself promoted to the '01' friend).

8.INT Ally CAR AFTERNOON


In Ally’s run down Ute. Ally has stopped to pick someone up. A woman climbs into the passenger side. It’s Jac’s step mum, Mrs Hamilton.


Ally

Hi Jac’s (The woman turns to face her.)
You're not Jacqueline.


MRS HAMILTON

I'm her step-mother. Drive.

(Svet does as she's told and sets off down the street)



MRS HAMILTON

It's taken me two years to climb up to the top of that
myspace, and I don't intend to lose my spot to you.



Ally

But, I never...



MRS HAMILTON

(threatening) You just stay away from that myspace


9. INT BACK IN Steve’S LIVING ROOM/ APARTMENT NEXT NIGHT

Both are on coach watching a DVD.

Ally

You know uh, Steve, I uh, couldn't help but notice that I'm on your
top friends.



Steve

You deserve it.



Ally

But I can't help thinking that maybe there's someone in your life who
deserves it more. Someone you've known, you know, more than a week.

Steve

My stepmother got to you, didn't she?



Audiences laugh

Ally

What? No.


Steve

Uuh, I can't believe she did this again. That's it! She's off my top friends completely!

(Jac’s gets up, stams to the laptop)

10.INT Ally and Freak’s APARTMENT NIGHT

Donna, Roza and Svet talking in kitchen picking at nachos.

Freak

(fishing a conversion) So then they found out that I took their hard drives.

Toyota

How could they not fire you?

Freak

Never thought I'd fail at failing.

Toyota

Aw, come on there now.

(depressed) Feel like I can't do anything wrong.

Nonsense. You do everything wrong.

(hopeful) Everything?

Freak stands before Boss's desk. She occasionally shrugs at the boss’s remarks.



BOSS

I heard what you did in the parking lot, and it is
in-excuse-a-bull. You personally insulted me, my staff... I cannot believe that
you, could carry out such a disloyalty. Breaks my heart to say
it... You're fi...

(Donna looks eager, as the boss reaches this point. Suddenly, Another employee enters the office.



WILHELM

Wait, wait, sir. Donna doesn't deserve any of the blame
for what. If there's anyone to blame
here, it's me.

(Donna stares at Wilhelm in disbelief.


Audiences laugh


BOSS

What're you talking about, Wilhelm. You crazy?

WILHELM

No, no. No, no, sir. I ordered Donna to drive around insulting people
today. Because I'm tired of all your macho head games.



Freak

(distressed) He's lying, sir! I'm tired of all your macho head games!



Audiences laugh

BOSS

Macho head games?



WILHELM

(Wilhem puts arm round Donna's shoulder) she's just being loyal to me, sir.



Audiences laugh

BOSS

Wilhelm, you're fired. I owe you an apology Donna. Now, if you excuse me, I got some work to do..(heads toward the door)


Freak

(turns to Wilham) what was that?!



WILHELM

I wanted to get fired. Freak, you are looking at the new head designer of Ace’s. (walks away toward the door, leaving Freak looking crushed.)

Setting up our appartments

Today we finalized our scripts and started decorating our apartments. Donna, Ian and I are working together. We started off by creating a banner with our characters name on our apartment. Then we got to work setting up the rooms for our characters. It was a little hard trying to find the objects we wanted but it came out looking good.

Our second lesson on Second Life

Today we went back into Second Life and started learning how to make objects. We made a rotating earth with clouds to start off. Then we grabbed images off the net and created them in the game after uploading the images. I made a stereo system. These we can use these objects in our projects. Then we quickly looked at how to create guns in the game. To finish off the class we went into Comic Life and made a short comic based on our Second Life snapshots. Mine was about the mess we created in the game.

Week 8

Today we finished off talking about interactive stories. We were shown the website ilovebees and heard the background behind the story which was really interesting. We also looked at the program Eliza. Eliza is a program that represents a therapist. As you type the program replies with random sentences. After our break we came back and looked at different story shapes. This was to help us with our machinima movie and how we were going to include an interactive element to it. Then we got into our groups and starting discussing our story and how we were going to connect them all. We decided that parts of my story was going to be incorporated into Donna's story. Donna's story included parts about Myspace so out interactivity is going to be based on Myspace. Our characters are going to talk to each other through comments and compete to be top friends.

Second Life

Today we started in Second Life. We create our avatar and starting personalizing their look by changing their clothes and body types. We went to a place called Freebee warehouse which allowed us to collect free items for our characters. From there went to the Victoria Unversity island and explored the place while playing with the features of the site. The last thing we did was create our own T-Shirt in Fireworks and then uploaded it onto the game. It was really interesting.

Week 4

Today we explored character development. We did two activities. The first one we were given a random name and from the name we had to write a story for the character in 15 minutes. The second activity was writing down a conflict I once had. We had to write down the feelings of the person we had the conflict with. This was to try and see the other person's point of view. The last thing we did was watch a short documentary on how the character Gollum, from the Lord of the Rings, was created and developed. It was interesting and really went into detail. A lot of work was placed into the character.

INT: MIA’S APPARTMENT

The apartment is very modern. It is well decorated with nice furniture and paintings. Everything in the kitchen is stainless steal including the coffee machine sitting on the end of the bench. Sitting on the coffee table is a fresh bunch of flowers, a laptop and a small pile of women’s magazines.
It is early in the morning and there is a stream of light coming into the apartment from a small gap in the curtains. CAMERA PANS to the door to MIA’s room. She slowly walks out and heads towards the window, pulling open the curtains and letting the warn light into the room.
Mia is a short, slender woman with neat brown hair and brown eyes. She is 24 years old and works as a web developer in the city.

MIA:

I think today is going to be a good day.

Mia heads towards the kitchen and makes a cup of coffee. There is a knock at her front door. Wondering who it could be this time of morning she answers the door. Under a pile of boxes is her good friend GEORGE. He has a frown on his face as he clumsily drops some of his items to the floor.

MIA:

George? What are you doing?

GEORGE:

I had nowhere else to go. My landlord kicked me out because I couldn’t pay the rent. Could I stay here for a little while?

MIA:

Um…ok. But you’ll have to sleep on the couch.

GEORGE:

Thanks! You wont regret this.

CAMERA TRACKS as George walks into the apartment and puts his boxes down in the corner. Mia continues to get ready for work while George makes himself comfortable on the couch and watched TV.

MIA:

I’m off to work now. There is food in the fridge and if you need anything just ring me.

GEORGE:

Ok, thanks.

Mia leaves for work. George decides he is thirsty and walks to the fridge. He pulls out a bottle of milk. As he closes the fridge door he drops the milk and it goes everywhere.

GEORGE:

I don’t really want to clean that. I’m sure Mia will do it. I’m hungry though.

Instead he takes a packet of chips and goes to sit on the couch. As he eats he drops crumbs everywhere. He decides to put his feet up on the coffee table and knocks over the flowers.

FADE OUT
FADE IN

Mia returns home to find her house in a mess. There is milk on the floor, crumbs all over the couch; the sink is full of dirty dishes, the flowers are on the floor and George’s boxes had fallen over.

MIA:

George, why is my apartment so messy?

GEORGE:

Messy? Oh… yeah I got hungry.

MIA:

HUNGRY? You could have cleaned up.

GEORGE:

Why? You’re a better cleaner and besides there were good shows on TV.

MIA:

I invited you into my house and this is how you treat me! If you want to stay here you have to help out otherwise your going to have to leave!

GEORGE (OS):
But I have nowhere else to go.

MIA:

Right now I don’t care.

GEORGE :

But I would have done a bad job if I cleaned and you would have yelled at me anyway.

MIA:

At least you would have tried.

GEORGE :

Well why should I clean it’s not my house. I never cleaned anyway.

MIA:

Fine. GET OUT THEN! THIS IS NOT A HOTEL!

GEORGE:

FINE!

Door slams as George leaves. Mia starts cleaning up the mess.

FADE OUT
FADE IN

It is night-time and Mia is sitting in front of the TV with her laptop on. She hears a knock at the door and sees George standing outside with a bunch of flowers.

GEORGE:

I’m so sorry Mia. I know I was wrong. I promise if you let me stay I will clean up after myself.

MIA:

Are you going to mean it? I’m not going through all this again. You’re my friend but there is only so much I can take.

GEORGE:

I know. I should be a better friend.

MIA:

Ok.. you can stay but if you do it one more time I’ll kick you out for good.

GEORGE :

Ok..I understand.

Both George and Mia walk into the apartment and set down to spend the rest of the night in front of the TV.

Second Class

Today we started the class with watching an episode of Seinfeld called "The Marine Biologist." After watching it we went through and worked out where story lines and characters were introduced and set up. Then we looked through the whole episode and worked out the setting for the rest of the story.
Then we talked a bit about half life and started writing down ideas for our stories.

First Class

Today was the first class of "writing for multimedia." We met Stefan, who is our teacher, and he explained what the class would involve and the briefs that we would be doing in the next 14 weeks. Stefan explained how the first 5 weeks would be about story writing and learning how to develop a story. This is an important part of the brief as later on we would be writing a story and creating it on a virtual 3D world called Second Life. Our stories would have to include other members of the class who would come visit our character. The story is to be situated in an apartment block. The rest of the course will then be dedicated to creating this virtual world and making it into a machinima movie. After explaining this we went on to doing a brainstorm about multimedia and concluded the class with a series of written exercises. The purpose of these exercises was to get us to understand how to get ideas for stories and make us really think about what we were writing. Overall the first class was interesting and I’m looking forward to starting the brief.
